In 2026, Diwali and Lakshmi Puja fall on Sunday, November 8. Puja timings vary by city and tradition, so confirm the local muhurat with your pandit or trusted panchang.
Build the setup in five steps
- Choose one calm focal wall.Measure it and leave enough floor space for the family, puja items and a clear walking path.
- Build the backdrop first.Use a freestanding frame, layered drapes and artificial marigold strings. Keep fabric clear of outlets and flames.
- Place the altar.Center the mandir or low table, then leave room for the thali, kalash, offerings and the items your family uses.
- Add light safely.Use warm string lights and LED diyas near fabric. Put any real diyas on stable, non-flammable surfaces.
- Finish the entrance.A toran and rangoli welcome guests without crowding the puja area.
Safety first. Secure freestanding frames and cables, keep exits clear, and keep flames and hot items away from drapes, children and guests.
